Songs that conjure up a strong mental image
 

When I listen to certain Ayu songs, I get a very clear picture in my mind, like a movie, completely unrelated to any PVs or CMs that go along with the song. Does anyone else feel this way? Here are some of the images I get from songs:

PSII
I picture walking down a snowy path. It's completely freezing and the booming drums in the song are kind of like the muffling, consuming cold blowing around your head. And your body has gone totally numb and you feel delirious with the cold, and that's when the lyrics of the song go through your head.

Far away
I picture being on a ship on a big river in the middle of the night. There's a light shining from your boat, illuminating the water. You can't see the lights of any other ships, but you can hear them (that's the sound in the beginning/end of the song). And the melody of the chorus reminds me of a kind of hot, humid weather.

Walking through an open field at sunset... I don't know, the strings in the beginning remind me of sunset.

Um.. that's all I can think of right now... Please share yours!

it reminds of a girl very special to me. i dont know why but whenever i listen to the song, it just reminds me of her. when the song starts playing, her face and the good and fun times i had with her just comes into my mind. the story is...i met her this summer and we just clicked, i never felt this way with anyone. its probably cuz i was first heard the song when i saw her, but then i had to leave for school cuz summer was over. it was sad...i cant wait til winter break, so i can go back. but anyways...whenever i listen to the song i just think of her. and i cry sometimes at the end when the "Wo Woooo Woo WO WO WOOOOOO" part comes up

haha, my one is.. everytime i listen to moments, i got a sense of feeling to give out my every energy, every love, every moment to her. esp during the last chorus, it always makes me feel like hugging her :rolleyes lol.

I happens all the time to me with most music I like which includes amost of ayu's music so yeah.

I prefer music without liveshow and PV for that reason.

M someone praying very lonely with tears slowly falling. I always imagined the drum the heartbeats of that person feeling so strongly. There is also a strong wind. It's in a church, a cemetary and in a forest.

When i listen to appears, i think of a couple meeting up and then dating :D after all, that is the lyrics in english

When I think of AUDIENCE,I don't know why,but I think of samba.

These are indeed some of her most imagery songs. I share simillar feelings as you about PS II. Just add that I also imagine it in a different place sometimes: riding a ship on a stormy weather.

as for Far Away, I always imagine it in a lonely sunsetting rocky beach, looking at the waves come and going.

POWDER SNOW, CAROLS, HEAVEN - all for obvious reasons.

Oh yes. Many a time.

And Then has always been myself standing on a balcony from a futuristic apartment, looking out at a setting sun, and feeling as if I've been standing there all my life, watching the world pass me by, and not doing anything about it.

Heartplace is more of an abstract one. I see a tree branch through a rising sun and I always reach out towards the branch, to move it away and see everything as it is. I touch it and it disappears, then reappears. No matter what, it never goes away. It's always there. XD

Life is another one as well. I'm sitting under a tree, and strumming a guitar, feeling the wind blow by me and seeing blossoms from somewhere float along the breeze.

POWDER SNOW "Acoustic Orchestra Version" truly just... makes me so sad. XD I see myself just wandering an empty black void. It's snowing, I can see my breath in the air. And I can feel as if there was someone who used to be by my side, but is now gone or left me. It's soooooo heartbreaking.

When I listen to appears I think of the tango.

I also see a house with a green lawn and a dark roof and a white dove flying away when I think of Memorial address (the song AND album, but in particular the album). Actually, for no reason, I really thought that was the cover of the album before I saw it for the first time.

Mirrorcle World makes me think me of an old castle with mirrors.

And almost all Ayu songs sometimes give me a strong image of looking out over a highway at night with a lot of flats and pretty lights. It's a very night and serene image. It's not bright, like glitter, but more a quiet and serene night, with only life on the highway, and the flats have no lights in the windows either. I have this especially with ballads like SCAR.

walking proud - a really bad break up inolving bumping to a lover and the lover's other love then it is all snowey and i have to walk proud.

Wow all those are really beautiful. I especially can imagine the And Then and POWDER SNOW ones...

I also have one for Heartplace, but it's more of a feeling than a picture. Whenever I listen to that song, I get the feeling you feel when you've been crying for a long time, and then someone makes you laugh. That kind of bittersweet happiness... :)

Marionette - usually I see a girl in my mind that is 'performing' like there is nothing wrong when she's crying on the inside and she is controlled by the puppet master that is her significant other.

Jewel - it just reminds me of a mother singing to a little newborn baby while the little one closes her eyes and dozes off.

Powder Snow-acoustic orchestra version in the beggining I always think of a sort of Jane Austen-era woman riding a horse fast in a field of grass with storm clouds in the sky...

Heartplace: I think of Ayu walking down a street full of strangers. People can't see her but she can see everyone. Ayu looks at the people on the street longingly. At the last part she starts to cry because she sees some very happy people somehow in contrast to herself.

... something like that. It's as the lyrics say...

(miss)understood - I just picture an empty train leading nowhere. I'm just sitting there all alone. Me and my thoughts... lol.

Born To Be... - This song really does have that Olympics effect! I just picture myself at the games cheering the athletes and just having such a fun time and enjoying myself. I listened to this song practically everyday during the Beijing games.

Life - Me just walking the beach at sunset reminiscing the past and my childhood. I just remember me and my family being so close and having so much fun.My cousins and I would play video games on the Super Nintendo while my aunts cooked us food. It was so laid back in those days and then all of a sudden my mom and her sisters don't talk. We don't have family picnics anymore, we don't go to the beach as a family, my parents divorced. My whole family just broke apart. So listening to this song is very bittersweet to me.

July 1st - Sun. Blue skies. Beaches. Smiling faces. Don't know what else to say. It's just one of those feel-good songs that makes everything feel better ^_^

GUILTY - The beginning of the end of the world. The whole atmosphere surrounding this song is just really REALLY scary to me. Deserts, blowing sand, dark skies, earthquakes, people in anguish, shattered buildings, volcanoes erupting, hurricanes etc etc. And then I'm picturing the government ignoring everyone and basically leaving everyone to fend for themselves. Very depressing =(

Together When... - This is actually pretty funny :laugh The image I created for this song takes place way way WAY into the future. Where there's this whole society on the moon and then this girl from Earth had to escape the planet because it's on the verge to being destroyed so the space people(lol) flew a selected group of people to the moon where she met the moon guy. They fell in love, had a fight, she ran away, got shot. The end. lol I had a REALLY REALLY long time to think in class when I finished my test early XD I'm such a loser haha.

alterna - I always picture a large dictator, or revolution girl~ with a large thing of people, and everyone is so unhappy around, but she can be that revolution~ ahaha. And by the end, she is burning those bad things, and bad images~ and saying "if you are afraid, just run." ahaha~ and change the world.

poker face - a girl is in the middle of group of people, singing~ and trying to find that one guy who she wants the love from~

I Am... + opening run - I Am... gives me an impression of Ayumi standing in some kind of opening crossroad, a scramble one, cause she's asking all these questions~ and then as the song progress, in the final chorus, the scramble lights turn off, and the traffic flows around her, and ends with her crossing to the other side. Then, I feel.. even though opening run is only an instrumental, I can see so much from that song. Flashes of places, and people, and things important to the theme of I Am... and then, the final image.. ayumi looking at the person, and back in the position on the other side of crossroad~

HAPPY ENDING - I feel, it's like.. she is walking along some path, and on an path that is running the same way, everything is so nice, and so happy, and her path, everything is caving in, and broken, and coming down until the end~

SURREAL - I picture someone on a megaphone, walking down a street powerfully, until she gets to a big a stage~ and then la la~ an explosion around the stage, and her band is visible, and everything turns into like a concert~~ ahahaha.

End of the World - it's the end of the world.. everything is turning dark, and she is the only light, singing to the dying world, and people continue to turn their heads to her, and start noticing, until the end, where the world can be born again~~


ahaha maybe I imagine too much~
