A Song for...who?

I'm sorry if there's already a thread like this!! I couldn't find one.

I've read mixed things about some of Ayu's songs being written about certain people.

Such as:
A Song for xx (for her mother or father?)
Teddy Bear (for father?)
Memorial Address (for father or grandma?)
MY ALL (for friend who died?)
Untitled ~for her~ (for friend who died or grandma?)

As i said, i've seen different theories to all these songs, and I'm wondering if there's any actual interviews / articles / translations where Ayu talks about these songs or what was written for who?

yuki_unmei 14th July 2009 12:54 AM

even if you don't have the link to anything, but remember what was said about any of the songs, i'm really interested :yes

micster 14th July 2009 01:00 AM

I think it was on her TA blog or something she said that Untitled ~for her~ was for a friend who had died.

There was a lott of discussion on A Song For XX before and I think most came to the conclusion that it was for her mom. One reason being XX is the chromosome for female

Maemi 14th July 2009 01:10 AM

I really think that Teddy Bear and Memorial Address are for her father, ASFXX for her mother, untitled ~for her~ for a friend who died/killed herself, and MY ALL for fans.

nanakopy87 14th July 2009 02:07 AM

yaya....
untitled~for her~ is for her friends
MY ALL for her fans
A SONG FOR XX is for her mother
Teddy Bear is for father
hmm,no idea for memorial address

yuki_unmei 14th July 2009 02:25 AM

yea i'd seen some people say MY ALL was for her friend, but i thought that didn't make sense cause i always thought it seemed like a song to her fans telling them what she thinks her career is all about.

thanks for the answers so far! ^^

My All = Fan's song

A Song for XX = the "x" here is not the letter, it's a japanese symbol that means "fill this blank with whatever you want", it's like "A song for..." When she performs it at TV, it's even anounced this way, without the xx. But she said once that her blank is filled with her mom.

Untitled ~for her~ = friend who passed away

Andrenekoi 14th July 2009 03:54 AM

she said once it was for her mother... I would not say A Song for XX was for someone who suported her considering the lyrics

who is for grandma

Calico 14th July 2009 04:04 AM

Yeah, Who... is written for her grandmother. I know it's been said somewhere but I don't remember where...maybe somebody else does? Anyway, it's also fairly obvious if you read the lyrics.

A Song For xx - adults who didn't believe her or whatever when she was young... and mainly her mother, imo.

Who... - grandma

teddy bear - dad

Memorial address - dad

untitled ~for her~ - dead friend

MY ALL - fans

Others:
Together When... - Tomoya Nagase
HONEY - Tomoya Nagase

Other suspicions:
SCAR - dad

That's all for me, imo.

Wishing-her best friend Natsuki

Well, so, Natsuki has been great and important in Ayu's heart since then. I feel she is the first person who broke through the wall in Ayu's heart and I've met such a person for the first time in my life of twenty years. And I thought I'd like to write a song for her. As I'm shy and cannot say I thank her nor I'm sorry face to face. I thought I could only make a song and deliver my message. I wrote this lyrics thinking of Natsuki, and a close friend to you. Please listen. "Wishing" by Hamasaki Ayumi.

I thought Who... for fans and ever free for grandma

No, but it is now, kind of...like when she sings it live, instead of:

Korekara mo zutto kono utagoe ga
Anata ni todokimasu you ni to
(I wish for this ever singing voice to reach you (right?))

She sings this live:

Korekara mo zutto kono utagoe ga
Minna ni todokimasu you ni to
(I wish for this ever singing voice to reach everyone)

Anata - personal
Minna - general

So I believe that though Who... was originally written for her grandma, it now is a fan song.

MY ALL is a song for her fans, as well as her staff it seems to me.

ever free is about her grandma.

A Song for XX is aimed at her mother, but I think it's also how she felt when moving from Fukuoka to Tokyo, as people have said, XX IS indeed the female chromosone, but when written properly it uses the symbol for batsu batsu which as someone else mentioned means insert here.

teddy bear is about her father, or a lost love maybe.

Also Memorial address seems to be either about her father or grandmother, perhaps both maybe...

untitled ~for her~ is about her friend whose dates were printed in the GUILTY booklet

Also when A Song for XX is sung, isn't one of the words changed also?

ayuayu798 15th July 2009 02:26 PM

Yeah she change the lyrics from," People always used to say." To "you used to always say..." To make her lyrics more honest.

Loo-chan 16th July 2009 06:17 AM

It should be noted that untitled ~for her~ and Wishing were written for the same person - Natsuki committed suicide in 2007. D:

zyoeru 16th July 2009 07:51 AM

^ No way, Natsuki recently celebrated her birthday, Ayu attended and there were photos. :P

krazeyo 16th July 2009 09:03 AM

We need the liner note for her albums :yes Here's an interview I read a while ago at ayu-mi-x that talks about A Song for XX. It was translated by Delirium-zer0:

Quote:

Would you mind telling us the meaning of your album's title, "A Song for XX"

Ayu: The "A" in "A Song for XX" is both the "A" in Album, and the "A" in Ayu. As for the "XX", listeners can insert their favorite thing, the name of a person they care about, something like that. All that matters is that listeners imagine something there. Inside Ayu, there is only one meaning applied to the "XX". But, since everyone who listens will have different ideas as to who that song is about, I didn't want to limit the definition of "XX" by specifying its meaning to me, so listeners can themselves attach a meaning to it easily.

01 A Song for XX

When making the album, this was my #1 choice for the opening song. I always consider the melody in my head first, and once I know it then I write the lyrics, but this time, while I wrote the lyrics, I had the overall sound of the music in my head, but I couldn't write it. As I wrote the characters down the song became very real, but it took a long time to get started.
As for the lyrics, I looked back on things in my childhood and wrote about that, my questions and uneasiness during that time, and the theme of the song was those feelings. Because I am older now, if I wanted to hide then I can hide, and I feel bad for my past self, and now I can put that into prettier words. But I didn't want to write a lie, and probably if I did write lies, I wouldn't have made the album at all.

Loo-chan 16th July 2009 04:07 PM

But it was huge news a few years ago... I remember reading articles on it. But I just looked up the party photos, I hadn't seen those. Maybe it was a different Natsuki? idk. Bizarre.
