Sunset PV Thoughts

I didn't see a thread for this PV yet, so I thought I'd start it. :P (If there is one, I'm sorry. I must have missed it. >.<)

Did anyone here see the PV yet? If so, what did you think?

(Download available here.)

Spoiler:
I thought it was very, very beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the choreography and didn't mind the long and multiple shots of the dancers. I thought it was edited very well! Ayu looked absolutely stunning, the fans were not annoying (lol), and I was really glad to not hear any sort of cheering at the end. :)

I give it five out of five stars. :D

JackieRos 7th August 2009 01:33 AM

i loved it! better than Sunrise IMO
i couldnt watch it full at once when there was a close shot of ayu i started weeping
but what it think is that where the dancers necessary?
there was barely close shots of ayu

well thats my opinion
oh and thanks for this thread i actually looked for it ^.^

naxxo.licious™ 7th August 2009 01:47 AM

Ayu looks S T U N N I N G.

It's soooo much better than Sunrise PV in every single way.

I'm ok with the dancers cause, well, we already knew there was going to be some choreography.

I wanna kill those TA members tho :) <3. They look dead as always.

Damn, if i was in front of ayu i would literally go nuts.

I understand that they were probably just following the director's orders, but they always look like this at her concerts anyway =/. Just waving their "wands" like idiots. Meh, whatever.

The ending was very beautiful imo. I can see myself watching this PV every once in a while.

JackieRos 7th August 2009 01:49 AM

oh and i remember a member saying that they wanted the glowsticks
but nobody knew what glow sticks and now we see them :yes

truehappiness 7th August 2009 01:57 AM

It was really well done. It was like a very soothing version of the Sunrise PV. While Sunrise was chaotic with people screaming and dancing all over the place with Ayu and the wind blowing her hair in her face.. this was just her standing there singing us her song [and the fans kinda screwing up during the lightstick waving] and looking gorgeous while doing it.. it was like.. mmmmmmm.

I like her outfit and etc. I wish she would've worn the outfits she wore for these PVs in the covers, haha.

i don't like it very much, for a song that long it needed more stuff going on in the PV because it got boring fast.
i loved the ending though, when she waves and the TA waves back. that's the only part i really liked.. besides her looking gorgeous.
i don't know what's up with it looking SO low budget though, both this and the sunrise PV. i never would have expected them to look so cheap.

They blew all their money on the NEXT LEVEL PVs xD;

I really liked the PV, it was gorgeous and moving! But much like Sunrise, not much replay value D:

This is just my opinion but I honestly don't like this PV either. Here's my pros and cons:

Pros
1) OMG! Team Ayu members...Thank God. The light stick waving was pretty cliche and unnecessary, but hey at least they weren't waving towels and zippo lighters.

2) A very pretty skyline. The sun is a little bright at times but at least it's real.

Cons (get ready)
1) The dress that Ayu wore...was COMPLETELY unnecessary. If she wanted to wear a dress it should have been a nice sundress or something. The glitter, the long hair, the garish jewelry, and the sunset didn't come together at all. I know a lot of people will get all angry and stuff but, it just didn't work for me. The song just doesn't call for a glitter-dress and a whole bunch of bangles. It's just TOO much for such a simple song.

2) The background dancers...*BIG SIGH* For Sunrise, they were needed for the energy and while they may have epically FAILED in that video for their choreography, I can understand WHY they were in the video to begin with. (Especially with Ayu spinning around in a circle like a lost kitten). For Sunset however, the female dancers just get in the way. I mean not only are they completely out of sync with the music, but the song itself DOESN'T CALL FOR CHOREOGRAPHY. Sure some of Ayu's ballads do, a good example of this would be Moments, Green, WILL, momentum...etc. This song is for me very similar to JEWEL in the sense that dancing solos take away from the song. In my opinion, they all look like their trying to do their best imitation of Shuya's dance solos during the arena tour ballad-segments. I know it's harsh, but do a side-by-side for yourself and you'll see how easy it was for me to come up with that conclusion.

3) Ayu is just too far away from the audience. It was bad enough in Sunrise, but now she probably looks like a glittering stick to them for this session. I know it's supposed to be like a live performance but hell, they could have done better than this. She just looks so distant compared to how up close and personal she is during her tours and performances on TV.

4) Is it just me or does Ayu's hair look like a 30-second clip on weave? It is by far, twenty times better than the dead-flower look she had going in Sunrise, but it's still difficult to look at with a straight face. If the wind were blowing any faster I swear it would've fallen out. No lie---I wear weave all the time so I know when a woman's weave isn't on securely/properly.

5) The zooming in and out timing is off by a mile. When Ayu is singing, the camera should be zoomed in on her or another human being, not out scaling the entire scene.

---
After looking at both of these PVs, I have to say that whoever came up with the overall idea had good intentions. Ayumi's live performances are strong and without a doubt the best in Japan! It's not until it all comes together that it really just falls short. I think that it would've been better if for Sunrise, Ayu went out to an amusement park with a few actors and actresses played by people that AREN'T/NEVER HAVE BEEN her dancers, then as the video progresses she could develop feelings for a particular guy. Just a nice, hyperactive and fun video of Ayu doing something normal. She could even wear jeans and a tanktop, something we haven't seen her in since when, INSPIRE?

Then when the Sunset video begins, maybe it could have been the two of them walking on the beach, going to an ice cream stand and saying goodbye or something. It's something we haven't seen from her and it would feature people we haven't seen A TRILLION TIMES within the last five years worth of music videos. And again it would be natural and not semi-divaish. Part of the reason why I think Ayu's losing popularity is because her image has remained glamorous for so long that people can't really relate to her anymore. I love big sweeping ballads with glittering ball gowns and big hair just like everyone else here, but I think we can all agree that a casual-Ayu without the heels, the bling, the big hair, and just the overall glamour is something we all miss.

truehappiness 7th August 2009 02:42 AM

I think they're saving up money for some big PV in the future. Usually that seems to happen with Ayu stuff. They blow all their money in one go and the rest of the PVs kind of suffer if the director isn't proficient, haha.

PoetGirl 7th August 2009 02:46 AM

its touching and beautiful. but some scenes were boring and made me yawn. but that was with sunrise pv too. i like it overall, but it could have been better - more interesting. i want to watch ayu not structure for the whole 3 minutes (thats what it seemed, not that i counted) and then a lil bit of ayu. i wanted more ayu shots. but again - its beautiful, cuz of her interpretation, song itself, and tears in her eyes and mood of the pv.

Lol...

It's sad but very true.

kotora 7th August 2009 02:51 AM

Around 5minutes, that close-up shot is totally stunning. Her eyes is like glitter that flashing!

AyUmIXx 7th August 2009 02:53 AM

I'm so in love love love love love love with Sunset PV...
the colors are very beautiful! very very Sunset :)
and i teared up when i watched it.. it's just a beautiful song and PV
i just love the simplicity :)

and i wanna what building is that? or not building..donno what to call..
that building is just so cool!!!

anyway i think Ayu/the director wanna do a performances-like PVs, i guess?
therefore they use fans, the lightnings and all? like a beach party..that's the concept..

Beach Party - everyone should have beers instead of gold sticks

Estella 7th August 2009 02:58 AM

I really dont like it.. (or the Sunrise PV)

I just think that the strange structure which she is performing on is just so awkward... both PV's would have worked much better as traditional performance videos, normal stage, audience, on a beach or something..
not to mention you can see the cameras and crew in many shots of both PV's.. very unprofessional..

AyUmIXx 7th August 2009 03:00 AM

^

probably, that's one of the high level beach party... LOL
a concert at beach.. a concert needs gold sticks..
that's why i said it's the concert-like PV

^ agree

i thougt the ending was strange, where she covers her mouth.... haha.
hey at least you get to see some fans! :D but they look... i dunno. not really afected? a bit bland? but yeah, ayu was standing very far away XD did they even SEE her properly?

truehappiness 7th August 2009 03:09 AM

Japanese women tend to cover their faces when they're crying, haha.

Quote:

I almost thought that, but then I wondered how my face would be like if someone was singing a ballad.. yeah.. not really affected.. haha.

AyUmIXx 7th August 2009 03:12 AM

Ayu teared up so she covered her mouth..that's normal thing to do..
i could see the Japanese fans were looking sad too?

Aisha_Angel 7th August 2009 03:14 AM

Sad or lost?
