Question about Ayumi and jpop in general

...

Yvette 9th September 2003 04:00 AM

Ayu writes her lyrics and helps compose her music. she doesn't lip sync either :) her voice isnt always the best when singing live, but she tries.. thats my ayu! :D

Ayumi Hamasaki writes the lyrics for all of her songs, with two exceptions:
"LOVE ~since 1999~" and "卒業写真".

Ayu wrote the music to these songs by herself:

I am...
UNITE!
evolution
Naturally
NEVER EVER
still alone
M
Endless sorrow
Heartplace
Dolls
Close to you

She co-wrote the music to these songs with DAI:

Daybreak
Dearest
no more words
Free & Easy
HANABI
July 1st
Voyage
independent
HANABI~episodeII~
theme of a-nation'03
forgiveness

You can't really generalize like that. There are plenty of artists who write their own stuff and also lots who have everything written for them (and then there are even more people in the middle of those 2 extremes).

ImpactBreaker 9th September 2003 10:39 PM

Artists like Aikawa Nanase, Tomoko Kawase (the brilliant green) and hitomi all write their own lyrics :D Cool ne?...if i'm not mistaken Tomiko Van, Kaori Mochida and Utada Hikaru also write their own lyrics as well.....(sometimes there might be a few exceptions to a few songs of these artists I mentioned but comparing to the huge work these artists do it's not unnatural that they might cover one or two songs).

Grantith: I meant it just as a pop assumption. Sure, it differs my genre, but all I know is American pop, and I'm pretty certain all that crap is just conceived by marketers.

I could be wrong though, does jpop mean pop music, or all Japanese music in general?

Aikawa Nanase > She does that Zoids Theme that I like, right? What is Zoids??

ImpactBreaker 10th September 2003 04:25 AM

Zoid is an anime with animal mechs I think...I never watched it before but you're right, the opening of that anime is called NO FUTURE , a song from Aikawa Nanase!!!

btw, welcome to AHS ;)

so, HI HI! Welcome to the World Of J-POP! (btw ... Iron Chef is such a nice show!) Yup, it's quite certain that J-pop artistes are rather hardworking writing their own lyrics and composing their own songs. J-pop (ok, almost 90% of us don't get what they are singing about) but I think it's the rhythm and music that attracts us.

For me, I don't think that music from J-pop can be like part of Mandopop (Chinese) or English Pop. It's very unique, something like you wouldn't expect some english or chinese artistes to have this kind of music. It's a very new and fresh area. (Not to mention about the mixes hehe ...) (ok, personal opinion only)

So, try listening to several different artistes.
(I got hooked up after listening to SPEED's White Love and then I saw Ayumi's YOU MV in some TV Programme and after that her shocking LOVEppears cover, then I started listening to J-pop straight after that. Now my sis does too. )

Welcome to the forum Storduff!:wave :wave :wave

What I like about Japanese music in general is its originality and diversity. They rely on little/no sex appeal to sell their music and you can find all kinds of genres...or genreless music cuz they are so original! Yeh hope you like Ayu like we do!!

averageone 10th September 2003 07:24 AM

I would also recommend artists like BoA, Utada Hikaru, Do As Infinity, Every Little Thing, Crystal Kay.... so many good ones. ^_^

But for Ayu? In my honest opinion songs from her [I am..] album are some of the best pieces of her work. ^_-

And I enjoy Tekashi's Castle..whenever I can catch that. (Not that often..because I can't spell it..) But yeah.. Iron Chef is also a fun show to watch! ^_^

Yvette 10th September 2003 07:27 AM

I agree with average. I am is just one of her best works. There are a lot of good artists out there, just gotta look and expiriment to see what you like listening to :)

I was suprised when I heard Evolution, it sounded like a rock song!

Woo did you like the song? Alot of people began to like Ayu cuz of that song.:D Most Jpop artists do pretty diverse work, so don't be surprised if tomorrow Ayu sang jazz.

Then how do you classify the LOVEppears, I am... booklet, and RAINBOW covers then? See, everybody has to use sex once in a while, even our Ayu, but not to the ridiculous level that US artists do.
even britney spears..but that doesnt mean she doesnt have any integrity =X
