Lol. I don't believe this list. XD Not only is Namie Amuro and Ayu not on, and Arashi isn't number one (:thud), but aiko is on?? And Hikaru is so high, even though she really only released...you know, crap? D: Very strange...

aww, arashi is #4? for me, i'd prefer it to be either arashi or utada hikaru in the top 2. :( but at least she's #2, although i think she should have gotten #1 instead of mr. children, lol. :P

i've read somewhere that most of the member of oricon are hikki/aiko fans, no wonder if their name is stucked in the list in every year

Duh, of course Hikki and Aiko are always on these lists. It's scammed by Hikki and Aiko fans who pay their Oricon membership dues every year, plus the ten people who blindly believe that This is the One has any artistic merit and probably voted more than ten times. Superfly deserves to be on this list more than those two.

It amazes me Aiko is so high and popular. She's cute but never got into her music...

Err Utada released really unpopular music this year, how she got here is an absolute mystery to me. Very odd list.

Arashi was #10 last year, so they jumped up quite a lot. All of the artists on the list have a very good opinion from the general public in Japan, so its not that surprising. It just shows that some groups with high sales aren't necessarily successful with the general public as well.

And I think the title is a little misleading - from what I gather this is not ranking who you think released the best material in 2009 etc. But just simply saying which artists overall do you like the best. (which is why Hikki always, always tops these large polls)

edit: or actually, the better way to put it is this: The artists on this list are ones that appeal to both genders and across many different age groups. Whereas if you look at say Namie and Ayu, their primary appeal is to women in their 20s and 30s. So while they may be incredibly popular among that demographic, they are not as universally popular as those on this list.
