About AYU's self-production

We know ayu to some extent produces her own music, but maybe she didn't have full control on her music from her debut.

Does anyone know in detail when and on which album did ayu have how much control on producing her music? Like since year XXXX (or XXX album) she can decide her-image looking. Or since XXXX she can decide on the music style or choose her own songs or song writers or music arrangers.

Would somebody please tell me? It's ok if it's a list or form or just partial plain text. :)

She commented in an interview about LOVEppears that Max wanted to put her down as the producer as she took such an active role but she felt it was inappropriate. :)

But since 2000 she's composed her music (M) and she arranged WONDERLAND from MY STORY.

Thank you so much, zyoeru! That helps a lot.
Does anyone else know something more in detail?

Lyrics: She wrote every lyric but love:destiny, that was written by Tsunku. She started using english when she felt like she knew enough english for not comiting "engrish", and was (or is, don't know) helped with what she writes in English

Music: Her first melody was M, she composed or co-composed almost every track on I am.. and Rainbow, and her composing partner is DAI. Her last composition was Will from (miss)understood, but it seens that she compose something that is not used from times to times. She choses the melodies and arrangments in person, since LOVEppears I think. The only song she ever arranged alone was Wonderland from My Story

PVs: She never directed a PV, but she is the one responsable for the themes and concepts...

Image: Since LOVEppears she has control over her image, and how is she going to look like.

Fashion: She designed some outfits she used (like the kimono-ish top she used when she won the MTV Asian Awards as the Most Influential Japanese Singer.

Concerts: She was always involved with the themes and concepts she is going to use, chose the dancers, the band members and the staff. The final lighting, arrangment, choreography and outfits are all chosen by her. From CDL 04-05 to AT06 she is said to have visualized the concerts on the DVD credits. Since Best of CDL, she is credited as a producer.

I read in an interview that from the beginning(or rather from her first album on) Ayu was allowed to choose which melodys(out of a big number of melodys) to use and these melodys then were arranged. But she wasn't interested in music at all before Duty era.
The reason she started writing was because none of the melodys her staff wrote for M appealed to her, she bought a keyboard but, not being able to play it(so the story about her playing piano at the age of 5 must be fake), hummed the melody instead.

In 1999, on Ayu's official site it had a profile page and Ayu said she does piano lessons so she can probably play but I doubt the playing at 5 thing if she was still taking lessons when she was 18 or so :innocent I think what happened is that the melody Ayu had in mind couldn't come to her using the keyboard and it felt more natural to hum it out instead :cool

she did write love ~destiny~! she didn't write love ~since1999~, but it wasn't the a-side of the single

Yes..well, being able to play an instrument is one thing, but being able to compose using it is something else. I believe she can play, but it doesn't surprise me that she had to hum what she wanted as the melody. XD

thats cool! I always knew that she writes the lyrics, composed mostly songs from I Am... and others, and she did the arrangement of SWEETBOX's songs. But about the pv's, "she is the one responsable for the themes and concepts...", is new for me. I thought the themes were a decision with the group.
That's why i love ayu, she is not a empty artist. She's so great.

Andrenekoi 26th December 2009 05:56 PM

^She didn't the arrangements by herself, but they reflected what she wanted...
About the pvs, she obiviously discuss it with the group, but the final decision is hers...
