The Ayu Baby Experiment

Hello all. A lot of people say that when you play an unborn baby a piece of music or a song, it will remember it when it’s born. I want to test this theory and see if it’s true.

My husband and I are expecting our first child in early August and I want you to help me pick an Ayu song to play.

It has to be something with a simple but strong melody so probably a ballad would be best as the faster and more rocky Ayu songs are too complex for little developing ears. Below I have listed several I think would be good. You can either suggest your own or ones from the list. After a few weeks, I’ll pick either the most popular or the one the baby would have the most chance at remembering probably via a poll. I’ll also endeavor to learn the song so I can sing it as a lullaby to our baby too.

I won’t be able to post the results till later in or after August when we’re all settled once again but I will definitely let you know how it turns out.

Song List:

Carols
Curtain Call
Days
Dearest
Forgiveness
Happy Ending
Heaven
Jewel
Moments
Momentum
Part of Me
Rainbow
Rainy Day
Seasons
Secret
Teddy Bear
Together When
Voyage
Walking Proud

If you have any favorite from the list, or think any others should either be added or, leave the list, please let me know. I don’t have many from her first two albums as I’m not too familiar with them but please feel free to suggest additions.

I’m looking forward to hearing what you all think.

♥Andali♥

P.S. We’re having a boy; any name suggestions are helpful too :D

imaihotaru 25th March 2010 11:38 AM

walking proud is probably a better song (: soothing yet powerful.haha :D n i think Ray's a nice name.

tokyoxjapanxfan 25th March 2010 11:41 AM

oh wow, this is a really cool idea :D

out of that list i think voyage would be a great choice :)

oh, YOU also has a great tune and meaning :)
the version on A BALLADS is my favorite version of the song :) (YOU "northern breeze")

love in music 25th March 2010 11:44 AM

I'd say RAINBOW.

AyumiBest 25th March 2010 11:45 AM

I choose voyage.
YOU is great as well. You can try that.

I think Curtain Call is the best choice, because it is the simplest song. The melody is very clear and simple, and it has few instruments. It's probably not a good idea to go with your 'favourite' song or something, but rather with a song that's simple and easy to listen to.
In that case, rainy day or teddy bear are such songs aswell.

btw. Nice idea!

Bubbly 25th March 2010 11:53 AM

I think Voyage is pretty good...but Teddy Bear wouldnt be bad either

Suteisi 25th March 2010 12:52 PM

Personally I would do either Carols or JEWEL.

To me, they are very calm and beautiful, the melody relaxes me when I'm stressed out (and it's even better when I watch the JEWEL PV, I don't know, the whole thing together makes me feel serene).

RAINBOW could also be a good choice though.

Nice idea! Your son is a lucky guy for listening Ayu since he haven't been born xD

I think GREEN Acoustic Orchestra version would be great too
And the slower songs in MY STORY Classical are so nice! :D

Tom Punks 25th March 2010 01:08 PM

I think Curtain call. :yes It's very simple and hard to forget.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS!
And your idea is really nice.

I would recommend

*rainy day
*walking proud
*Dearest
*Voyage
*CAROLS
*RAINBOW

because they are all very beautiful and very positive songs!! <3

hmm. I dont suggest u to use any of Ayu's song for your infant. her music are pretty noisy that not good for baby..

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 25th March 2010 01:36 PM

wow! first, congratulations for the BABY! :)

well, I love this!

and my choices will be:

-Dearest - classic ayu with acoustic piano intro,it will make your baby a musician like ayu :yes LOL
-Voyage - classical music with violin harmonies - good for your baby's brain :yes
- SEASONS - ah.. it will make your baby fall in love with ayu since she was born.. :D

and I think you should try some songs from MY STORY CLASSICAL..

yeah.. you know... classical music is the best for baby's brain development right?

so, good luck! :D

That's not really true alex XD

My nephew is 1 year old and he likes to dance to songs with beats (it doesn't matter in what language) and he's so cute dancing lol.
He still can't walk but he walks when he holds on to something like a table~.
He's hearing up beat music since he was born (and even before) since my sister and her husband loves up beat music.

I would suggest Days, ever free, teddy bear, Voyage, Curtain call, RAINBOW (maybe), BALLAD is a good suggestion ayu said the song lyrics has the love emotions from a mom to her son. =D
You were... (Music box -retake version-), SEASONS.

And a big congratulations. =D

My sister is pregnant 2nd time (and it's a girl this time!) and she will give birth around September. ^^

I'd go with Voyage or teddy bear - I played Voyage (the orchestra version) a lot for my nephew when he had just been born ^^

Though he's now 2 and much more partial to Morning Musume music :laugh And he loves Kuu's SUPERSTAR XD

majrakun 25th March 2010 02:13 PM

I'd say the acoustic versions of Heaven or Dearest, those two are very beautiful, and they have a very calm melody. Puts me to sleep every time I listen to them.

ihulk2 25th March 2010 02:24 PM

Congrats.

Ayu's "You" will forever hold a special place in my heart and I would love to think that it will also be among my baby's first impressions.

Best wishes.

Thats different. your nephew already borned and hers still infant.
I just heard this from my cousin who gave birth her first son last year. she said only classic music is good for baby. Ayu's music is too hard and loud even her ballad. maybe teddy bear is an exception

Delirium-Zer0 25th March 2010 02:32 PM

I would go with JEWEL, personally.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I listened to alot of Ayu - she reacted very positively when she heard Ayu's voice after she was born. "Bold & Delicious" was one of her favorite songs when she was a baby, since it came out when she was about six months old... she'd try to sing along and end up just squealing happily. It was so cute. XD (She didn't like STEP you, though, too loud, lol... she loves it now though cuz she likes heavy one-two rhythms, and the counting in the lyrics is fun for her.)

Just FYI, my daughter also really likes "boku wa kuma" by Utada Hikaru, "Ramen 3pun COOKING" by Ai Otsuka, "Sentimental Piggy Romance" by LM.C, and "Kiss the Baby Sky" by Tohoshinki. Just in case you wanna further indoctrinate your child to j-music, these seem to be the songs my kid personally responds to favorably. :)

Curtain Call, it's so simple
and probably teddy bear
