Jpop Female singers with The Best Vocal Register ?

Hi

i love the jpop but i have to say that all the jpop divas have regular voices.

who are the asian female singers with the most beautiful and powerful voices, with the best vocal register?
i'm talking about exceptional and extraordinary voices.
singers that could match to celine dion, mariah..etc

Polyrhythm 31st March 2010 07:06 AM

In order of strength I'd say....alan, Utada Hikaru, ayaka, and Koda Kumi.

mcluva420 31st March 2010 07:19 AM

NOBODY!!!!! really, i havent heard anyone even comparable.

or somewhat:
misia? Taeyeon ^_^. alan. mika nakashima. Insooni, and some Korean singers

emi♡ 31st March 2010 07:48 AM

alan...ayaka, hiromi, mink, emi hinouchi...a lot of people say MISIA...

well imo their voices are amazing. They have the most perfect sound and timbre. Total control when going through ranges. And when you hear them live, they're always perfect as well.

Koda has potential, but she doesn't really have the best control yet, and her voice can be unpleasant when it isn't perfect...which is like always.

hidemi uematsu has a really unique voice, and she's got some power.

I don't know about people who can match celine dion...I mean that level of power doesn't really exist anywhere does it lol

and j-pop...probably isn't the best place. There are some seriously amazing enka and jazz singers in Japan...if you're looking for the big voices. I think your best bet is to look there, or go through the R&B, and ballad-y type people.

Hidemi Uematsu's voice is very unique & distinct & not to mention powerful

she's a great under-rated indie artiste :D

Huaka 31st March 2010 11:13 AM

Lyrico has a great voice. Has a big vocal range. It's not showcased too well in her songs though. =(. But I think this was good:

the only artist I can think of is Misia or stephanie who can sings 5-octave notes. Other than that, Alan is one of the nomination too. Her voice is incredible, well, I guess most Tibetans are born with good voice since they sing a lot

People mention hikki and mika etc but I don't agree that their voice is extra-ordinary. They sound good, they really do, but compared to singer like Misia or Celine Dion, there're still a gap between them

I'm not familiar with music terminologies, but you want powerful, big voices and what no, then these are my recommendation:

- Mai Fukui: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwM9444II2o

I say :
Yuna Ito or MISIA = Celine dion,
Ayaka = Whitney Houston
Stephanie = Mariah Carey

BoA definitely has a unique voice, and extraordinary too! :D

ah yeah, don't forget Taeyeon SNSD and Hikki~!

Crystal_Ageha 31st March 2010 07:57 PM

When I think of exceptional voices, ayaka, MISIA and AI automatically come to mind. They're amazing! Those are top three, for me.
Mika Nakashima also has an amazing voice, and Kumi Koda is near that level, too. Oh, and that Stephanie chick... Her actual voice is kinda eh, but she can hit whistle register - and it seems perfectly~ controlled - so that's impressive. alan is similar to her, too, though not as good, in my opinion. And Angela Aki, she has incredible lung power and pretty good range; a very balanced, very polished singer all around. Sachi Tainaka is an underrated singer, probably since she usually sings anime songs. But unlike the other anime singers, she actually has an amazing range, and she sounds great live.
Hikaru Utada has such great potential, but she often sings out of her capability, and she strains too much. It sounds really bad a lot of the time. So she drops down a few spots because of that. As for BoA.... She's an EXTREMELY overrated singer. The thing about her is, her actual voice is just powerful. Her actual singing is just slightly over average, at best.

More or less impossible to judge when it comes to pop singers since they're never measured excpet their songs. Have to look at the scores I guess, but most pop songs stay within a very limited range. (so that people can sing them at karaoke etc)

Andrenekoi 31st March 2010 10:20 PM

most jpop singers sux live...

But if I was going to say who have big voices, I would go for Hitomi Shimatani, Kokia, Angela Aki and Ayaka Hiakara... even if alan and Stephany have good voices, they lack control, Utada sux live, so does Koda, Ayu, Namie, Mika, BoA... Sometimes they can impress, but most of the time they are just average or slightly above it... Never heard Misia live, so I can't say anything about her^^

Angela Aki

Kokia

And if we go for older acts, Akina Nakamori

Alan is good, but she needs some work to do... But she is young, so, she still has the time ^^

sora-kara 31st March 2010 11:02 PM

most people have hit a lot of the singers i was thinking of already.

but lets not forget:

Hajime Chitose - she sings in shima-uta style, lots of highs and lows. Great range, good power and control. Shes become rough later on in her career though.

Choi Jin Yi - front woman for kpop band rumble fish. Wicked power, and emotion. Good range tonally and stylistically. Just really fun to listen to!

Natsukawa Rimi - another shima uta singer, but she's a lot cleaner and ....leaner in shima uta style than hajime chitose is. And her voice....just....holy ****. Do you know any other singers whose voice can fill a theatre without a microphone? Her live stuff is incredible. Her albums are still good, but a studio just can't seem to capture her entire voice. INCREDIBLE.

Andrenekoi 31st March 2010 11:33 PM

Rimi is very good! *-*

happiholic★ 1st April 2010 12:10 AM

I'd say alan. She one of the most amazing voices I have on my mp3 player. I think that Hidemi Uematsu is amazing too, but her voice is very enka, so it's hard to really compare her.

jkm444 1st April 2010 01:20 AM

I know she doesn't exactly fit the J-Pop thingy but I have to say Momoe Yamaguchi.

Fair Wind 1st April 2010 01:27 AM

I think people forget about Yuki Koyanagi. She can belt like crazy and over the years has really learned how to control it.

aloopy 1st April 2010 01:38 AM

^Wow she's great! I've never heard of her. Imma look her up!

I think she's one of the best as well. Her voice is really pleasant too

ayaka x Ayaka Hirahara duet. So goood

Crystal_Ageha 1st April 2010 01:45 AM

^^ Oh my gosh, I haven't forgotten about her! :P I actually was gonna say her, but the problem I have with her is, she sometimes over-sings. >_< But then again, she's better than some of the people I listed - like alan or Sachi Tainaka - so I'm not sure why I didn't include her, hah...
But anyway! I definitely agree. :yes She has a nice range, and she can truly belt (sometimes, like I said, too much though ^^').
Love that song, by the way! My favourite from Yuki. :heart
