Did Japan like Ayu because it was trendy or because she meant something? Probably some of both. Remember when Ayu touched so many people with her lyrics. When I go to Japan this summer...I want to gain my own perception of the Japanese market.
When I re-evaluate why Ayu is important to me, many of the reasons are personal. There was a time when I thought there was nothing special about her. So I shouldn't be surprised when others don't like her as much as I do.
