JE is more idol-based than H!P. also, JE members don't graduate, haha. i've read articles saying that JE is a monopoly, but i don't know. i just think Johnny Kitagawa is really good at marketing his groups.
JE has their own up & coming stars that they place in a category called the "Johnny's Juniors". after the boys audition and get into the Jimusho, they're placed in this category as training to become a full-fledged idol. these Juniors even have their own TV show called "Shounen Club" where they perform. they also back-dance for their "sempais" at music shows. so, even though they're not releasing music, these Johnny's Juniors have a fanbase established!
i think that's why KAT-TUN has been so successful. they were formed back in 2001, even though they just released their first single a year ago. YamaPi has been a favorite amongst the fangirls even before NEWS debut back in 2004.
i do hear about JE challenging other management companies, even having a special deal with ORICON. but, who knows?

(i have a few JE magazines myself & they promote musicians other than their groups. i see WaT photoshoots all the time! but that's my 2 cents.)
