I would highly doubt it's referring to America. Say Ayumi, and most ppl won't know who she is.
I do kinda agree with you, tho, no one is copying anyone, it's just the current trend in fashion right now. Open up a fashion magazine from ANYWHERE and you'll find clothes that parallel each other~
