Wow Ayu forum drama, anyways.
I enjoyed this year's CDL...possibly more than last year's. It may be because of the majority of the new songs this year performed. Regarding her vocals, I really loved the performances of Together When..., Bold & Delicious, untitled ~for her~, and MY ALL (her emotions overflowing). Together When... sounded much better than most of the TV performances, too bad she was too tired for kouhaku. Bold & Delicious was just awesome...although I still hate the yagadawo lol.
With regards to the lip syncing, she may have a backing track playing and when her voice is too thin the person who controls it turns it up. The tone quality of STEP you and evolution does sound different to the rest of the songs, but it may be because she's using more of her nasal cavity to produce the tone. Other than that though, I don't think she would purposely lip sync or otherwise...how could that SURREAL performance have occured.
decision sounded horrible, but that was mostly due to Peko and Princess. SURREAL was completely off...but I noticed she was tampering with her earphones a LOT in this performance. I wonder if something technical malfunctioned. She is partly deaf, and since around 2006(?) she's used these new earphones for her live performances and they have been better from 2005.
I really enjoyed watching the concert. Most of what I said is just a repeat of everybody else...but I think most of you guys are just wording things the wrong way. Ayu is not one of the superb vocalists of the world, and if I really wanted to listen to one I'd attend an opera performance. So isn't Namie, Utada, BoA, etc. They are all commercial musicians, who can sing but are not vocal virtuoso. Some may be better than the other, but they would all lose out against true virtuoso in terms of tone quality, proper vocal technique, etc. What's real to me about Ayu is in her lyrics, how she takes part in producing her music/shows, and how she doesn't lip sync completely (correct me if I'm wrong). She brings emotion to her songs, and I'm able to feel that as an audience watching a performer, and that's enough. I'm an Ayu fan, and I seriously don't think anyone should be a fan because they think she's a great vocalist. She can sing, but most of the time there are flaws.
