It's absolutely, totally the second way.
If anyone actually owns the CDs, it's very clear that everything on the outside of the tray and slipcase is a stylization. Inside the leaflet, it is apparent there is more to the song titles. STEP you, for example, is 'THE YOUNG PUNX! Remix Edit'. Undoubtedly, this means this is a shorter version of a full remix, not to mention there are dubs and instrumentals as well. Also, some of the remixes have FULL NAMES outside of these 'x' designations - where you see BLUE BIRD x 7TH GATE, the remix on the inside is listed as the '7TH GATE Snow Bird Remix'. Ayu's official site had things listed with the full remix name for a few weeks until they updated it with the stylization.
This is not to say you can't tag things this way - of course you can. Do whatever you want in your music library. However, those are absolutely NOT the names of the remixes.
