I definitely don't find her post #1s career to be a steady decline... actually, I find Rainbow to have been a worse album than Glitter. But then her quality of music took a nosedive with Charmbracelet. And then a huge spike upward to Emancipation, and maybe E=MC2 will only have a slight dip in quality.
And Mariah is so good with keeping up with what is popular and very at-the-moment, so maybe that's why people think she's putting out mediocre stuff... because mediocrity is what is selling these days

But really, if MC had kept going in the adult-contemporary direction of the days of "old Mariah," her career would've been over by now. That era was very much dead and gone after Butterfly.
