The compilation albums in the U.S. like NOW music collection and such aren't as popular, but decent selling artists like rock, conservative, and pop sell extremely well as solo best albums. such as Destiny's Child, Mariah Carey, ABBA, Queen, Rolling Stones, and many other, but it's only to a certain extent.
For Japanese compilation albums I think it's different, because they tend to sell more along the lines of solo artists rather than just single songs from many artists by themselves. All in all I tend to think Japanese compilations are much more bigger sales wise, promotional wise, and overall by QUALITY!!!
