Technically, not the best vocals, but one of the best emotive J-pop singers from my generation. Technique alone does not equal a beautiful voice or great songs (Heart Station I am looking at you). It's the emotion behind the singing.
Not the most acclaimed music? Winning Japan's top music prize three years in a row, and the only artist in its more than fifty-year history to do so? In addition to countless music awards? Her music is critically acclaimed well enough.
