In comparison, "Music" sold almost 420,000 and "American Life" sold just over 240,000 in their first week.
However, "4 Minutes" has done REALLY well. And with the ability to just buy that one song online, maybe people aren't interested in getting the whole album.

Confessions is the album basically all dance tracks. Lots of people love it as non-stop album and dance music. The music fits in dancing clubs a lot. The promotion from the dancing clubs definitely was a help.
Hard Candy is different. It has some dance and ballads songs.
