The only explanation we ever get is "black ayu" and "white ayu"... that's actually what the personas on the covers are called.
My guess is one is the dark, mysterious side of ayu, and one is the bright, showy side of ayu - they're both purely her, but one is more daring and the other more safe.
She does that duality thing alot. This mighta just been her way of saying there's more than just the innocent little girl from A Song for XX.
