I doubt ayu chose Midoring JUST because she didn't wanna use Shuya all the time. If she wanted to just go with someone different for the lead, she'd have chosen one of the other guys - it isn't like Shuya is her ONLY male dancer.
She chose Midoring for a reason, and we won't really know it for sure until we see the whole video. But it looks for all the world like unrequited love, one way or another.
