Even then, it's possible for her to have a half sibling she didn't know about. Just because she found out about the death of her father, does not mean she would know whether she has a brother or sister by him elsewhere (he could have left them too, just like he did Ayu). But really, there is absolutely know way for us to know one way or the other, it's just a possibility.
btw, I know on here it's a popular theory that Ayu's father was a foreigner in the US military and that's why he left and was never heard from again. Well, I did some searching on Japanese message boards and it seems a popular theory there is that Ayu's father was a yakuza member and he left because he was transferred from the Fukuoka branch of the gang to the Yamaguchi branch. His gang membership is why he has been kept so secret from the press.
