Honestly, Goku is the only thing wrong with it, casting-wise. (And the complete lack of Krillin.)
There aren't any japanese people in the original Dragonball - everyone's chinese, alien, or european, so.
Takeshi Kaneshiro would be cool for DBZ Goku, but not DB Goku - in Dragonball, Goku's a little kid. (Making him high school age for this movie makes sense from a filmmaking/marketability standpoint, but that whole "innocence" part of the storyline had to die for it to happen.)
I think, regardless of its accuracy to the original manga, it looks like it's gonna be a fun movie, and that's all it's supposed to be anyway, so. Seriously, I wish more people would give it the benefit of the doubt - they're knocking a movie they haven't even seen yet and I don't get that at all.
I went to see a production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" once, and it had a queen instead of a king. The woman's audition was so good that they rewrote the play so it was a queen. It was a FANTASTIC production of the play, with one character cast "wrong". Maybe Justin Chatwin just did such a good job auditioning that they made him a white kid instead of asian? You don't know.
