Is this good for Exile though? I don't know much about J-pop bands, but korean boy/girl bands of 10+ members usually ended up failing.

Well, as far as I know, Super Junior and Girls' Generation have moderate success now. They WERE wildly popular, but the hype has dwindled down rapidly. (right?)
There haven't been (again, as far as I know) any male bands with more than ten members (Hikaru Genji?). Morning Musume and AKB48 have moderate success (although I think MoMusu is more popular), but this is considering they're girls. Their main target is the older men (the 30+ ones) and the young children, since I don't think their fashion sense is something the teens and 20-somethings want to follow.
As for EXILE, they can target all female demographics, and even some of the male ones, too. So they may experience a jolt of popularity.
BUT
I think that in the end, it'll fail. The hype isn't gonna keep them around that long I think. If I'm thinking right, with four talented male vocalists and ten background dancers, I don't think it'll work out. TOO much talent isn't good.
