I thought that as well when I first became a fan during the ULTRA BLUE era. I actually just bought DEEP RIVER not too long ago, and I have to say it surprised me! the visual style might not seem anything like UB and HS, but some of the songs already follow a similar style!
Like: Sakura DROPS, traveling, Deep River, A.S.A.P (kinda), Final Distance, HIKARI.
Also "Uso Mitai Na I Love You", but that one's in a completely different league (rock).
I'd suggest listening to the entire DEEP RIVER album just once
unless ofc you already did that and you simply didn't like it
