^ lol I'll try! xD
Well, as a
generic Hollywood "action story" where the reluctant hero who can't master his abilities manages to do so at the last moment to save everyone goes, I guess it can't be faulted. But you can't just slap "DragonBall" onto a movie like that and expect it to be accepted by the community, or any random cinema-goer.
As a DB fan, I know the story is very generic, so what made it work was the interesting characters. Goku in the books is too innocent and gullible, whereas Goku in the movie is some bland angsty teen who doesn't want to be "different". He does have 2 good moments - the part where he slicks his hair back and when he finally stands up for himself made good scenes.
Chi-Chi and Bulma's actors should've been reversed. Bulma's actor looked way too old and her supposed intelligence didn't match her actions in the movie (She's smart enough to develop eht DBE but even though she saw a woman steal the DragonBall she almost shot Goku for being the thief? wat).
Chi-Chi was kind of boring as well, flashing cleavage wasn't necessary and she added nothing to the movie except being a lust-object for Goku and
Same thing goes for the actors of Roshi and Gohan. I think Jackie Chan should have played both roles! xDD Then you could have seen two identical old men with different personalities. That would've been funny IMHO. :eyeroll:
Don't get me started on Yamcha. His parents must've put really tight hats on him as a baby >_< Ewwwww. They kind of got his money-lust right but I think he's really dull in DB without the fear of women thing.
Putting aside the looks of the cast in comparison, the story had next to no logical flow. I don't mind if they
but the way Piccolo did that weird evil-guy monologue thing where he reveals his and Goku's past was silly and overdramatic. I also don't like how they had to arrange the Balls in a special place and make the whole corny summoning speech for Shen Long to appear.
I didn't go into DBE wanting to see a live-action version of episodes 1-13. I just wanted a story with continuity, interesting takes on established characters and good acting. I don't think we get any of those things with the movie....I'm a bit ashamed for Ayu's and Toriyama's names to be associated with it =|
Actually, make that three good scenes for Goku. The part where he
it made me laugh xDD
On a side note. I was very creeped out by this one scene: When Bulma and Yamcha are walking down the spiral staircase in the latter half of the movie (right before the "almost kiss"......barf) on the upper level there's this one asian-looking dude standing there doing nothing and looking STRAIGHT INTO THE CAMERA. It was like he was looking into my soul or something. His face was like this: ¬_¬ but looking in the opposite direction....it was so creepy!
