I'm not sure if I agree, allthough I think most of the avx ladies have a mor "exotic" beauty, in the sense that they have something striking and special about them rather than being plain traditional beauties. Ayu may not be a traditional beauty, but she has many features that would b considered really beautiful by japanese standards, like her eyes.
