I can't tolerate Ayu's voice at the beginning of her career for very long. It is way too high, screechy, and flat. These days, I think Ayu's voice just keeps getting better, with more dimensions being added.
About these "poppy" "sugary" songs...I think these just add to Ayu's variety. I am constantly impressed by how she is willing to try new things, and poke her nose into many genres.
