They don't even know. I don't usually bother telling people, but for the purpose of this thread, lets dramatize what happens in the few instances that someone has kept pushing for an answer...

Random Person: Woah! Your iPod is huge!
Me: Yeah, I know. Its only because its 30 gigs and an older model
RP: So, what do you listen to
Me: Nothing that you'd know... (my default answer for the above question)
RP: Like what?
Me: Japanese stuff
RP: Oh... thats cool. Can I hear some?
Me: Sure (plays Ayu)
RP: OK... thats pretty cool...
*awkward silence*

Either that, or they look through the iPod itself and they say "I don't know ANY of these people/songs" and hand the iPod back to me.

On the off chance that someone takes interest in it, though, I'll get all excited and go off on some rediculously long rant about eurobeat, Ayu, Hands up/ how misunderstood CASCADA is in the US, or something like that. Which probably puts most people off, but for whatever reason, i can't help it.

And like whoever else said (sorry, I didn't take note of the username), its usually just referred to as "that wierd Japanese stuff".

But people don't really alienate me for it. Some of my friends don't care and some take interest in it, but they don't, like, hate me for it. If someone were to dislike me for my music choice, then I don't need them to be my friend anyways.

And in response to whoever it was on the first page (sorry, didn't take note of the username again) that said its easier to listen to Asian music when you're Asian, hahahah... not always. There are some people (most people would call them d***** b***) who only further profile me because of my music choice. But whatever... i just avoid them/ignore them anyways.

On the other hand, several of my friends/people-I-know-who-I-talk-to-but-aren't-really-my-friends listen to some obscure stuff. Not Japanese, but its obscure enough. Which, I guess thats always a good thing, because then its not like I'm the only one who listens to stuff no one else would know.

*sigh*... This is why I need this forum as an outlet. It reminds me that I'm not the only person on the face of the planet who,listens to Ayu/ Japanese music...
