There is one time that when one of my classmates asked me who is my favorite music artist, and I very proudly said "my favorite artist is Ayumi Hamasaki". And then, my classmate started to ask "who is that?!?"
After that, I felt really isolated when it comes to music they're listening to.

Same situation here! I am an American and I do like some American music, but very rarely. I will listen to Gwen Stefani and some Lady Gaga, etc but not very much. :p
No one understands who I'm talking about when I mention Ayu. It's a shame! :/ And when they see that it's in a foreign language, everyone looks at me like I'm a crazy, because by looking at me you'd assume I don't speak anything other than a European language! And to listen to something Asian is strange to them. They don't even want to try Asian music unless they are Asian themselves.

I don't look like the otaku type or anything. I just look average. No one would guess that I'm a maniac for Ayu!
