I actually love Japanese music in particular because it has more of a focus on lyrics. In Western music you need to have one of three things:
1. A really awesome song that will get you famous for five minutes
2. WAAAAY too much sex appeal to the point where watching MTV is like watching the Adult Channel
3. An awesome PR team that gets your song on every TV channel, every radio station and every thing under the sun
I also love it because in Japan artists that aren't maybe selling huge or always getting number #1 still have a strong fan-base, for example AAA; they aren't on the same sales or popularity level as most Johnny's or DBSK but yet their concerts are always packed. In Western music if you don't hit the top 5 then you're nobody and you're just dropped and left to the side.
Another reason is I love how things are released in Japan; its always new material. Artists release singles then albums then get new material. In Western music its like heres an album now here's a song you already know and another one and another one. And now I'll get one new song, add it to my album and re-release for a higher price! Now I disappear for 2 years to do new stuff, delay my new album by months, get in some major controversy and then release my album when I'm all over the news! WTF is up with that??
