When Asian artists, especially Japanese, try "overseas", they at the very least start in the U.S., since it's the biggest market. But because the majority of Americans aren't very accepting of foreigners, especially Asians (and even more so, Japanese, specifically) it's nearly impossible for them to even get a single radio play, let alone enough of a following to be considered successful.
Different European countries are more accepting, but their markets are either significantly smaller than both the U.S. and Japan, or they're pretty much non-existent.
