One of the main reasons they picked her for Bones was because of her English ability. I'd say she has been close to fluent since early to mid 90's. Back in 1988, she released "Citron", an album which had American producers working on it, and several of the songs included countless of English words and sentences. 1990 debut in USA. Also in the 90's, most of her (if not all) dancers were American. It goes without saying that she was required to use another language than Japanese if she felt the need to communicate with them.

Here we have Seiko and 河合奈保子 (Naoko Kawai) singing ふりむかないで (Furimukanaide), original song by ザ・ピーナッツ (The Peanuts) in 1962. The song was also later on covered by Wink in 1992. Seiko and Naoko both debuted in 1980. They were not only fellow idol rivals, but also very good friends.
