Well, obviously most musicians - not even only mainstream - can't usually claim them to be ALL theirs, but (and I'll be talking about Japanese artists right now, because Western artists don't apply, usually) most artists at least do most of their lyrics. Or, even if they don't do a lot of that (which applies to Kumi), their songs are at least written for THEM, and aren't rip-offs of other songs, or all covers:

I've recently found out that half her discography is either covers, samples, or songs that are shared with other artists in some way. (She's done quite a few "demos", or things like this, what ever this may be.) Not only are most of her songs not mostly hers, but they're pretty much not hers at all. So that's the problem. For a lot of "her" work, the only reason you can tag on the Koda name is because of her vocals. She doesn't do the composing or arranging or even the lyrics, and a lot of songs aren't even written with her in mind. It just gets old, learning that pretty much the only contribution the artist makes to most of her works are the vocals and images for the booklet.
