Actually, I've read a translation of a message by a Cassie. Cassiopeia has been losing members long before the lawsuit started. It's doesn't mean they aren't fans anymore. Cassiopeia isn't a fanclub like Bigeast. Bigeast pays, but gets special Bigeast stuff (goods, CD's, ...). Cassiopeia pays, but gets nothing. Would you guys pay just to have the official name of 'Cassiopeia' if you don't get something else? I have seen red balloons with Cassiopeia on it, but it could be fanmade too. Cassies are tired to be treated like trash by SME, so they leave the fanclub. I think you could see this as a part of boycotting SME goods (the money of the fanclub goes to SME).
Maybe some fans left because of the lawsuit, but know that Cassies left before the lawsuit too.
Also, boycotting SME goods was already going on before the lawsuit but just Korean fans, not international fans. Why do you think Mirotic didn't sell that well in his first week (you would think that a fanclub of 800,000 members would all buy the album for which they waited almost 2 years, no?)? Cassies were already boycotting SME by not buying Mirotic.
As for why SME wanted to replace Jaejoong, I don't know. I remember reading somewhere that Jaejoong wasn't really popular in their beginning days. That during fanmeetings all the fans would go to the other members and a few would come to him. He felt sad because of this. That might be the reason why Jaejoong always worries about their fans ("I didn't think people would come") or why he always mentions Cassiopeia/Bigeast

Maybe the reason that he wasn't popular enough was the reason why SME wanted to replace him? I don't know. Cassies and the members didn't want Jaejoong to be replaced (a lot of quotes come back from those days, "Without the 5 of us, we aren't called DBSK", "If anyone leaves DBSK, I just go back to school" CM, ...). I guess fans started to show more love to Jaejoong from then on.
Did you guys know that SME wanted Super Junior to be like Morning Musume (changing members when they become too old for the group)? Suju fans protested and SME changed their plans and let Suju be.
