I think they said they wanted a complex video, but they were on a tight schedule and only had time to do something really quick and simple. plus, it kind of makes sense with the lyrics, and the way the song is. light, simple and clean ^^, easy going. but i agree, definitely not one of my favorite videos.
Actually hikki wanna work with Donald Cameron (who directed her COLORS pv eventually), but somehow it didn't work (schedule conflict?), so kiriya was "summoned" in the end and all they could do was to wash dishes... .
