On the 9th of September miwa released her 3rd single!

“I want to continue to change endlessly.”

Filled with power and with her eyes focused on hope, miwa created a refreshing rock number that she plays on the electric guitar!


----Your first single ‘don’t cry anymore’ and second single ‘Little Girl’ were songs that showcased the charming sound of the acoustic guitar. But this time you made a complete change and accentuated the sound of the electric guitar. The song ‘chAngE’ leaves a powerful impression. I think it’s a song that shows us a peek of a new side of miwa-san.

“That’s right. On my last two singles I played the acoustic guitar, but this time I challenged playing the electric guitar for the first time. That’s why I turned the ‘A’ and ‘E’ in ‘chAngE’ into capitals, in order to show this change from acoustic to electric. It was a new challenge to me. The theme I included in this song is: ‘I want to continue to change endlessly’. In order to properly express this theme I needed a sound that can only be created with an electric guitar. I think it’s important to be honest to your feelings and thoughts, and to never place yourself in a box. I’ll be happy if people will take notice of this while watching me play my electric guitar.”

----I felt that your wish of wanting to change and the fact that you face your own feelings head on, is your process of changing from a child into an adult. Also, listeners will probably think of all kinds of scenes when listening to your lyrics, so please tell us about the things you realized when you wrote the words.

“I think that there will also be times where I pass by the people important to me because of the changes inside me. But, I believe that the day will come where we overcome those things and manage to understand each other again. I included that thought in the lyrics.”

----I feel you always pay a lot of attention to the different sounds the guitar has. This time, you made a single full of variation: the sound of the electric guitar in ‘chAngE’, the feeling of excitement in ‘you can do it!’ and the soft, gentle feeling of ‘amayadori’. What part of the sound did you focus on the most?

“As for chAngE, it has a fast-paced, rock-like band sound to it because of the electric guitar. Secondly, ‘you can do it!’ has a country-like arrangement. Lastly, ‘amayadori’ showcases the great sound of the acoustic guitar. I tried to give it a simple but slightly heartrending sound.”

----All three songs are filled with courage and with the feeling of facing forward. I think people will spontaneously get a smile on their faces if they listen to them live. What things do you wish for in your own music, miwa-san?

“My songs are filled with my own experiences so I think everyone can feel them as being familiar to themselves. I want to share music which you can feel close to in real life.”

----What kind of record has this single turned into, to you personally?

“This single has been a new challenge for me. It’s become a work that will encourage me at times when I feel lost. I also want to perform these songs live soon.”

----You’ve liked performing live right from the start, right? (Laughs). Last question, miwa-san, how have you changed and do you want to continue to change in the future?

“With this single I tried to place myself outside of the box, without thinking ‘this isn’t like me’. And I experienced the importance of believing in various possibilities and the importance of challenging things. My consciousness has gone through the biggest change. After this, I want to make all kinds of songs and I want to continue to change.”
