When I read the Japanese, I understood it as the speaker talking to a confidante about her past lover and how they're similar to the speaker's (current) lover. In your translation, it seems like the speaker (who we assume is ayu) is romantically involved with a woman, considering the kanji ayu used for 'anata' (貴女).
