It's been over a month since I got anything but today I received this...
Nakano Sayuri - Mitsukete [Mini Album]*
Debut mini album from Osaka indie artist Nakano Sayuri.
Overall it's an impressive debut. It's got a confident, relaxed pop sound similar to Satomi Takasugi except without the traditional instruments. It's notable to mention that Sayuri co-produced the whole thing and wrote the music and lyrics for the title track and that aside from one cover song, "Swallowtail Butterfly ~Ai no Uta~" (which is also being covered by Koda Kumi on her
ETERNITY ~Love & Songs~ album), Sayuri also wrote the lyrics for the rest of the songs.
A lot of pop singers do write their own lyrics, and it is commendable, but not a lot of them take on production responsibilities which I think is perhaps a disadvantage in artistic terms. Production is where a lot of the creative decisions are made and it could only benefit an singer's development to be involved with that. With Nakano Sayuri being a part of the production process I am very interested to see how she develops in the future and am looking forward to supporting her and her future releases.
*Note the obi: her hair is so awesome that it has to be on the obi too!
