Pink Lady have a ridiculously awesome weeks-to-singles ratio, don't they? Took B'z almost 5 times as many singles to even approach the number of weeks that Pink Lady were on top. That's nuts! O_O!!

Not trying to say it's not impressive, but sales were much, MUCH lower in the 70s than afterwards. The 80s was a period of booming sales for music in Japan. The first million selling album wasn't released until the second half of the seventies.
There wasn't as much competition, so if you were popular, you were REALLY popular. Not really fair to compare that to a group like B'z, who were popular in a time of extreme competition (although in their age sales were also at their peak.)
