When I was first really getting into J-Pop (almost ten years ago... O__O), I discovered K-Pop (and C-Pop) as well. I first listened to BoA's Korean music before her Japanese music, and also I listened to groups like S.E.S., Baby V.O.X., and Shinhwa. However, those groups disbanded/disappeared, and BoA began focusing on her Japanese music, so I more or less stopped listening to K-Pop. She was the only Korean artist I've been following (although I guess that Younha counts too) until a few weeks ago when I decided to finally give Girls' Generation a try. And I really like them.

I feel that way too, but I do know that there is more diversity in K-Pop music... it's just that those artists aren't as popular on the internet so we aren't as exposed to them as much.

I know maybe three words in Korean, so I totally get what you mean. I can't even really read romanized Korean. :| Same with learning about context. I've been watching BoA's new Korean lives and I'm confused since I guess the one show is a competition and she was winning? I dunno. I've also been watching some of SNSD's shows, and I hate that the replay the same line over and over again. It's the like the video's skipping.

This bothers me too. BoA, I can understand since she hadn't released a Korean album in five years, but I see it being used for everyone, even if they released something earlier in the year!

I also think that a lot of people are feeling saturated because "groups" are in as opposed to just solo artists, so we're constantly being inundated with a whole bunch of faces and images. I've always found that intimidating, anyway.
Yeah, I only recently gave into listening to SNSD. I'd been jaded by the earlier K-Pop groups that I liked disappearing, so I gave up on the Korean music industry and mainly listened to J-Pop. Then I tried real hard not to get interested in all the new groups popping up, and having to play catch up.

I find it intimidating too. With groups I feel like to need to learn all about each member (that's actually why I stayed away from Hello!Project initially, but obviously that didn't work ). I'm still learning how to tell all the SNSD girls apart.

Yeah, as much as I love Hello!Project (and I do love H!P a lot), a lot of the girls don't sing very well. Listening to SNSD has blown my mind because they all sing great.

I don't like saying things are overrated. Like emiko said:

I could see how some people could like...specify more, and say "so and so is overrated" or "their mainstream pop scene is overrated"...but then it's still all based on opinion isn't it.
