I'm the same. I listen to a lot of anime songs, but I also use that as a channel to find more artists to listen to. I don't like it when people make this generalization about J-pop that it must be in an anime to be worth listening to. I notice that I absolutely don't get along with other anime fans, either... Maybe it's a generation gap? I've been doing this stuff for ten years now and all of the little mainstream fans just make me angry. Or is that just me?

I agree with most of you guys. But I tend to avoid anime fans whenever I can. :| I find the ones who are like "You're such a baka! otaku kawaii sugoi blahblah" so embarrassing to be around, and they're the reason I don't tell anyone I listen to Japanese music until after I really get to know them. :/

I think I've actually met more real j-pop fans than anime music fans though. I even met a guy last year who knew who jpopyuna was.
I know how you feel. I've worked with tow natives of Japan for three years now and they didn't even realize that I listen to J-pop, watch anime, and speak a little of the language until about a year ago. My coworker was really surprised when she found out. The reaction was kind of like, "Woow! You like Japanese things? You aren't really like what I've seen of American kids who like anime." She was even impressed by the number of singers and actors that I knew. It really gave us something to talk about and she helps a lot with the language. She in her fifties and she's so much easier to talk to than any of the Japanophiles that come into work all the time.
