Let's not forget though, that Utada is in a VERY special position. She gets to do some of these things because her parents manage her and she's basically been allowed to do what she's wanted to her entire life. In Japan, generally, a company basically OWNS a singer. I know some like Ayu have managed to gain a large portion of power over their own careers, but most are practically slaves to their management.
She's very privileged to be able to do it. Of course, that doesn't take away from the fact that it's NICE she does it, just saying that other artists not doing it won't automatically make them greedy bastards : P
