I really don't see the point in compilation albums either unless they have some heavy material going on in there. If I am going to buy a compilation album, it better have new editing and mixing, unreleased songs, the artist's best songs to date, alternate arrangements and compositions, and amazing packaging. Slapping a bunch of songs on an album with 1 new song, standard jewel case packaging, ugly cover art, no new/up to date/alternate remixes/versions, no unreleased demos or songs, no new songs, or any of those bells and whistles is hardly worth buying except for collector's purposes. (talking about a best 2)

I never buy compilation albums, but I did buy utada's single collection vol. 2 cause it had tons of songs I love, a remix that wasn't physically released before, a second cd of brand new songs, a dvd with a music video of one of those songs, really cool digi-pack packaging, super high quality glossy laser jet paper booklet, and a cute paper kuma charm for good luck. That is worth buying. SCV1 though? no...not worth my money. It was just a compilation of already released songs on a standard cd with nothing new.
A BEST 2 was definitely worth the money! It was two albums containing her actual best songs (not just singles) spanning from I am... to (m)u (if I remember correctly), so if you missed one or two albums, you could have a physical copy of the better songs. That's a lot of material, plus all of the songs were remastered, there was new song and PV, and it was packaged with CDL concert and documentary and posters for the first press. Seriously... what are you talking about? xD;

And the only saving grace for Utada's best album was the second disc, which, as someone pointed out, could have easily been a mini-album even with the same amount of new songs. The cover was a disgrace and the charm was a joke. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, I really don't mean to be. But that release just showed how badly she wanted to get it all over with and go on hiatus. At least in my opinion. Thankfully, she had the guts to stand up against an even worse release, the English compilation. I respect her for that. But I can't see either release as worth the money to be honest.
