Born on March 18, 1989, Kana Nishino debuted February 20, 2008 with the single "I" after being selected out of 40,000 people in a Sony Music audition. After coming to America on two occasions, she discovered Western music such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and Ciara and became absorbed with hip hop, R&B, and reggae, along with other various types of music while also having an interest for the musical culture of Japan, such as learning traditional Japanese music.
Her first album, "LOVE one.", debuted at #4 on the Oricon Charts on July 24, 2009 and within the first month its release, broke through 200,000 copies. Since then she has released several successful singles starting with "Motto...", which attained the number one spot on both the Chaku-Uta and Chaku-Uta Full charts followed by her first double a-side single, "Dear.../Maybe" and "Best Friend" which along with "Motto..." are two of the few songs to have spent 2 weeks at #1 spot on the RIAJ Digital Track chart. Single "Aitakute aitakute" reached 1,000,000 digital downloads across Chaku-uta and Chaku-uta Full. Her sophomore album, "to LOVE" went on sale June 23 and has since become one of the best selling albums of the year, selling more than 500,000 physical copies in less than a month and still charting.
August saw her 11th single, "if", a middle ballad tied up as the theme song to the anime movie, "NARUTO Shippuuden -The Lost Tower-". Nishino ended the year with releasing the winter ballad single, "Kimi tte", which became her 2nd best selling single to date, while "to LOVE" went on to become the 3rd best selling album of 2010.
Her 13th single "Distance", her first release of 2011, will be out February 9th with the title track tied up with jeweler GemCEREY.
