I think they try to make the ayupan similar to the mood of the concert performance. For example if she performs "Microphone" she is powerful and serious, and since the ayupans can only smile or look... grumpy
, that's why most of them don't smile. Because only few of ayu's performances are totally cheerful and smiley.
