There was a topic about this at the old Ezboard forum if I remember correctly.
I cannot remember exactly how someone stated this, but Kurumi is suppposedly Ayu's real first name and when she began her acting career/swimsuit model career years ago, she changed her name to Ayumi Hamasaki as a stage name and continues to use it today. That means that Ayu's real name is Kurumi Hamasaki but is popularly known as Ayumi Hamasaki.
If someone can find this topic in the Ezboard posts area, then that will help out a lot.
