Hmm... that's pretty tough. Though male wota (from what I've encountered) tend to be straight guys with typically male interests and tastes it still could be tricky to get a regular guy into an idol group. It's hard to tell if he'll like the cooler stuff, the traditional or the genki/cute/childish/zany songs. I'd say just examine his music tastes and choose songs from there. When introducing anyone to a new artist, I always try to start with one or two of the artists most well known/loved songs and then a couple of things I know will suit the person's taste.
You say he likes rock music so show him some of your favorite K songs. For AKB48... hmmm, maybe something along the lines of Iiwake Maybe or Beginner though it sounds like he might be more impressed by their stage work.
