So I have this thing against Girl Groups with everybody and their mama in it. Never cared to look into Korean Music. Thus After School was not on my radar AT ALL.
Then they got involved with Namie and caught my attention and I discovered a performance of "Bang!" and allowed myself to forgive the large number in the group and like it. I actually only liked the verses and hated everythiing else. Felt very unorganized. But I stayed for the verses and the rest got better. Plus I loved this one live performance in particular so I had to keep watching it.
Then I'd find other performances and there would be another chick. And another one. They were multiplying like gremlins fed after midnight. Just a concept in music I don't agree with. Just sloppy. Then I'd see more performances and this member was gone and this one was gone, this one is on vacation, this one graduated. I'm like what in the jiggaboo heathen is this mess?! Can't deal with that and was out. OUT.
I'd still go back and listen to their Namie collab and "Bang!", but as for the rest, they were on their own. The whole concept of how their group worked just pissed me off. Don't do that.
So just recently I came across the Japanese Version of "Bang!" and it's been a while and the Korean version has grown old so I haven't been listening to it at all really lately, so I see the Japanese Version. No idea where it came from, how old or new it is and why. I listen to it and not expecting it, but it resparked my like for the song and I'm listening to it nonstop again.
I notice different people are singing different lines now. That's nice. People are given moments to shine that didn't have it. That's nice. Kahi is sitting up there sounding like a chipmunk on crack. What in the obligatory perfuntory sam h311? What a blemish on that song. And where is Bekah? Oh? She just up and left? Now I'm starting to remember why I left this group.
People leaving for vacations and mess and they're still filming proper music videos and live performances without them. Makes you realize just how disposable their handlers must think they are. And who goes on vacation in the middle of work? But I digress. I know Bekah left for good this time so that's unfortunate. A vacation is better than forever I suppose and mos' def' better than that scritch scratch of a crime scene Kahi left all up in the middle of "Bang!". Definitely left her mark. Her rap was the BANG.
But yeah, they put me off so much in the beginning that I didn't and still hadn't bothered to check their back catalogue of stuff. So after wearing the Japanese "Bang!" out for a while now ,I said fine, I see this other video of some song I've never heard of theirs. Let me check it out since I've KINDA grown to accept how they function and have had months to get over my pissed offedness.
I click the video. I start shaking in convulsions. Ready to just shut it down. Shut it all down. Just walk up on 'em on that stage and just smack 'em. Smack Smack Smack Smack Smack 'em! Because all I see sitting up on that stage is just ...........fo-.........let me contain myse-.....FOUR PEOPLE!
FOUR FREAKING PEOPLE!
I'm having aneurysms, seizures, strokes and children at this point. I named one Bekah so I could throw her up in After School and releave Kahi off her duties because it was driving me just so "CRASHII." How do you go from 54658 people to FOUR?!
And I'm still looking at them..........hard..........I realize I hardly recognize one person on that stage. Nobody looks like anybody.
These sparkly gold, green, silver and pink hooker outfits. Long pony tails sticking out the side of their temple. Another with hairballs stacked on top their head. I'm confused. And for a while I realize this must not be After School and the uploader messed up or lied.
Either way, through the fury I realize I really like the song. So I stay for the ride. In doing so I realize this is After School. I kind of recognize Jung Ga, U-ie, Nana and Kahi. The song is "Into The Night Sky" and U-ie's part is BOSS, and long story short I was up until 6 something in the morning last night watching every live of it, learning about how they separated into RED and BLUE. Learning about their Japanese Venture. Learning how Bekah left us with Kahi dying in the middle of "Bang!". I learned about Orange Caramel. And bought my first Import CD since last year, and first Korean CD ever, since no one has put out anything that's made me excited for music in about a year.
I also learned why red has always been my favorite color and why blue still is not for me.
I also spent today reading through this thread from page 1, getting more up to date and all that stuff, so I guess After School has got me again. I actually might like their split into separate groups thing moreso than the coagulation of bodies we normally see on stage.
And before I was mainly focusing on Jung Ga, but U-ie may just be replacing her.
