^They're probably being *really* creative with the numbers and including copies that were shipped. The way the article is written, it seems to be focused solely on Japanese accomplishments ("they will become the first overseas artist to accomplish such a feat in Japan") so I don't think OS sales have anything to do with that they're claiming.
Though, who knows?
