While I agree with you about album diversity and how it can be a great aspect of an album, I don't think cohesion is completely useless. I find that Namie is able to balance both out well on her releases. I think having a cohessiveness gives an album a direction while diversity makes it more interesting. The combination of both usually makes for a better album in a sense while the complete lack of either can make an album either messy or boring. An album needs to have a good flow in order for it to be good as a whole IMO.
