Check if you have "enabled iPod scrobbling" (tools>options>ipod). If it is enabled then try to remove all devices that are assosiated with last.fm (tools>options>iPod>"clear user associations") and then plug your iPod in. That worked for me atleast when it didn't work for me.
You won't scrobble the songs that have been played on your iPod before... so there's a risk you will lose that, but it should work after that.
